A So Then I Said... post.
Your boss announces a "small tweak" to the project on Friday at 4:55 pm. You nod, you smile, you say "no problem at all". Then you spend the weekend rebuilding the whole thing, and on Monday it is somehow your idea. The group chat is planning a holiday. Everyone agrees the budget is tight and the villa is "a bit much". Everyone books the villa. Everyone pretends the exchange rate was a surprise. You send the customer survey email yourself, with the line "your opinion matters". It is the same email that was sent last month, to the same people, about the same broken app. You are the one who has to read the replies. A relative explains the whole economy to you over Sunday lunch, using the words "common sense" four times and the price of a pint once. You say "hm". Nobody else at the table says anything, and the gravy goes cold. **Why it caught on:** the picture is a photograph of a group of older men in dark suits laughing together, holding glasses of wine, one of them bent forward with his hand on his knee, in what looks like an office or formal room. People captioned it with a smug punchline that someone in power says to a roomful of the powerful, and the joke is always the cynical thing they are all supposedly in on. It spread because the format is simple, with a short setup line and a cruel or absurd punchline, and because it fits any topic from politics to workplace life.
