hey people, i'm not god / just a prophet
A jesus says post.
Your neighbour leans over the fence with a huge grin and says the bins are going out at seven, every week, and he will be checking. The smile never moves. You nod and promise to be better. The manager who winks while announcing that the deadline has moved to tomorrow morning. It's said as good news. Somehow you leave the room thanking him. At a family wedding, your aunt gives a thumbs up across the room and mouths something about the seating plan. It is a threat. Everyone at table six has already been warned. Grandad starts grace in the warmest voice imaginable, then works through a list of grievances before the soup gets cold. Nobody interrupts. The food is too good to risk it. **Why it caught on:** the picture shows the winking, thumbs-up statue of Jesus known as Buddy Christ, which comes from Kevin Smith's film *Dogma* (1999), where a cardinal unveils it as a friendlier face for the church. It became a meme because the cheerful, welcoming look is a perfect cover for whatever blunt or furious message gets written over it, and the bigger the contrast, the funnier it is.
