Why it caught on: Grumpy Cat was Tardar Sauce, an Arizona cat whose dwarfism and underbite gave her a permanent frown, posted to Reddit by her owner's brother in 2012. By all accounts she was gentle, but her face said no to everything, and some days that's the only honest answer.
